Team agents
Team agent chat
One shared conversation per team agent, where everyone posts and the agent replies.
Team chat is rolling out and may not be in your workspace yet. Until it arrives, each person has a private chat with a shared agent. See Team agents.
Once you share an agent, it becomes a team agent with one team room. Everyone who can open the agent reads the same conversation, posts in it and gets the agent's replies there.
The room and your own chat
In the agent pane, a team agent's own row is marked Team: that is the room. An agent only you use keeps its private chat there, marked Main.
If you own the agent, you may also see a Personal row. That is your own chat with it, which nobody else sees. Once team tasks arrive, it goes away and the room is the only chat with a team agent.
Your earlier private chat with the agent does not show in the room. Sharing never publishes it.
Post in the room
- 1
Open the team agent
Its chat opens on the team room.
- 2
Write your message
Type @ to mention a teammate, a document or the agent.
- 3
Mention the agent to get a reply
A post without the agent is just for your team. The agent answers only when you @-mention it.
- 4
Send
Your post appears for everyone at once.
Anyone who can open the agent can post. You can mention only people who can open it too. The @ list also offers documents, folders, tables and tasks. Mentioning a task links to it and wakes nobody.
Hover a post to reply to it or add a reaction. A reply with answers under it shows N replies; click it to open the thread. The + in the message box attaches a file.
How the agent replies
The agent answers as a reply to the post that mentioned it. In a thread, it answers in the thread. It reads what the room said since it was last mentioned, up to about the last 15 posts, so nobody needs to repeat them.
Each reply belongs to the post that asked for it. Documents, cards and links it made sit under the reply, as in your own chat. Hover the reply for its icons: Turn details lists the steps behind that reply, and Open transcript opens the agent's whole log.
The menu above the message box picks the model for your next reply. That pick is yours, not the team's. Guests don't see model names. Type / to pick a skill. It runs only when the same post mentions the agent.
A Viewer gets a read-only answer. The agent reads and replies but changes nothing, and says someone who can edit should ask.
Each reply is a normal chat turn, run for the person who asked. It is paid from the workspace balance, counts toward their own spend limit and uses their own connections. If a room mentions the agent many times in a few minutes, it pauses briefly and says so.
A schedule that runs in the room posts a Received message line with its name, and the agent's reply follows. If a run fails, the room reads "That scheduled run didn't finish."
Messages sent to the agent on Telegram are answered on Telegram. They don't appear in the room.
Who is here
An empty room shows the agent with the faces of everyone who can open it. While someone writes, a line above the message box says who is typing. The agent shows the same line while it works.
When the agent names a teammate in a reply, the name shows as a chip with their face.
A team agent carries a number beside its icon in the menu when the room has news. It is green for new messages and amber when someone mentions you. Opening the room clears it, and the agent you are in never shows one. The same number also counts runs that need you.
Forms in a room
When the agent needs details, it puts a form under its reply. The person who asked, the owner or a Full member can fill it in. Everyone else sees it read-only, with a note saying who can.
Submit posts your answers as your message, so the agent picks up from there. Skip posts "Skipped the form." instead.
Approval cards in a room
A card sits under the reply that raised it. While the agent waits, its reply says so, for example "I need an approval before I can go on — waiting for it."
- The person who asked gets the full card.
- So do the owner and Full members.
- Everyone else sees one line, such as "Waiting for Dev Patel to approve a step…".
If you can answer a card, the browser tab shows it while the room is open, and so does a browser notification if you allow them. Room cards offer no Always allow or Bypass all. Once answered, the card leaves and the reply continues. See Approvals for what each card does.
The team's permission mode
A team agent has one permission mode for the whole team. It sits in the menu above the message box. Only the owner or a Full member can change it. Everyone else sees it locked.
| Mode | On a team agent |
|---|---|
| Ask each time | Available |
| Plan first | Not offered |
| Auto-accept edits | The default |
| Bypass all | Available |
The same mode applies to the agent's team tasks.
On a team agent, Bypass all applies to every teammate's request, connected apps included. Choose it only for routines the team has watched succeed.
For documents, live co-editing and handovers, see Team agents. Who may do what is on Roles & permissions.
