Agents

Agents overview

An agent holds one stream of work and a chat that knows it.

An agent is where one stream of work lives. It holds documents, skills, connections and tasks, plus a chat that knows them all. Select an agent in the menu to open it.

An agent open: the agent sidebar, the chat, and the Computer on its Documents tab.

The screen

PartWhat it shows
Agent sidebarThe agent and its tasks, where you chat
ChatYour work with the selected agent or task
ComputerDocuments, skills, channels, subscriptions and any open document

The header shows the agent's name, its ⋯ menu and the faces of people it is shared with. Hover a face to see that person's access. Icons at the right show or hide the Chat and the Computer.

The agent sidebar

The agent's own row comes first. Click it to chat with the main agent. Below it, Tasks lists smaller agents, each with its own chat. See Creating task agent.

The Search field at the top searches everything this agent can reach. Hide agent sidebar tucks the sidebar away, and an icon in the header brings it back.

On an agent shared with you, a badge after its role shows your access: Viewer, Editor or Full. A connector agent shows the account it is connected to.

The Documents tab's ⋯ menu sets the sort order. Connector and system agents have no Skills tab.

The ⋯ beside the agent's name shows these items, depending on your access.

One agent or many?

Use one agent per job and one task per piece of it, such as a task per month-end. Start a new agent when the documents, skills or people stop overlapping.

Where agents come from

  • Your Personal Assistant is made for you
  • You create them with New Agent at the top of the menu
  • You install them from the Agents Library
  • Teammates share them into your Agents group
  • Connector Agents link to outside systems such as Xero
  • Agent Hero provides read-only Global Agents

Global agents

Guides & Updates sits under Global Agents at the bottom of the menu. Agent Hero publishes it to every workspace. Anyone can read it, but only Agent Hero staff can edit it. Guests don't see Global Agents.

Its Status Updates note is the changelog. Each release rewrites it with the latest changes at the top. If the app looks different, the newest entry says why.

Guides & Updates open on its Status Updates note.

For your own team announcements, create a normal agent and share it as Viewer. An admin can share it with everyone at once.

Status marks

A dot beside an agent's picture means work is running. A number counts what needs you: work that failed, a question waiting for you, or finished work you haven't read. It is red when something failed, amber when something waits for you, and green when work has finished.

Each part has its own guide: Documents, Skills, Connectors and Chat. To see exactly what an agent can read, see What your agent sees.
