Agent chat
Attachments
Hand the agent a file for one message.
Attach a file when the agent needs it for this one ask. The agent reads it in that turn, images included.
Attach a file
- Click the round + in the message box, or drag a file onto the box.
- Wait for each file to show as a chip in the box. Click its × to remove one.
- Say what to do with them, and press Enter.
Attach a file
You can also paste a file. You can send up to 5 files per message, with a few words saying what you want.
Send waits until every file has uploaded. A file that failed turns red, and you remove it to send.
What you can attach
| You can attach | Size limit |
|---|---|
| PDFs | 25 MB |
| Word (.docx), Excel (.xlsx) and PowerPoint (.pptx) | 25 MB |
| Images (PNG, JPG, WEBP, GIF) | 10 MB |
| Older Excel (.xls), CSV and plain text (.txt) | 10 MB |
| Text and code files (.md, .json, .yaml, .py and the like) | 10 MB |
Attach or upload?
An attachment belongs to that message only. The agent won't find it again in a later chat.
For files you'll reuse or share, upload them to the agent's documents. Then @-mention them whenever you need them. See Creating and uploading.
When a file won't attach
Skipped files show a short reason.
| Reason | What to do |
|---|---|
| Not supported by this model | Some models can't read images or PDFs. Pick another model. |
| Legacy .ppt | Save it as .pptx. |
| Password-protected or an old Office format | Save as an unprotected .docx, .xlsx or .pptx. |
| Too large, unsupported type or limit reached | The reason names which. |
Mention instead of pasting
Don't paste a long document's text into the box. Upload it once and mention it, which costs less per turn.
