Documents

Creating and uploading

Start a document, upload your files, and keep them in folders.

A document belongs to the agent that owns the job. Make it there, upload it there, or ask that agent to make it. An agent can only read what it holds.

Create from the ⊕ menu

Create a document
  1. On the Documents tab, click the ⊕ beside the Documents heading. On an empty list, click Documents instead.
  2. Choose a type.
  3. Type a name and press Enter. The document opens beside the list.

Note, Book, Audio and Code start empty. PDF, Image, Sheet (from CSV/Excel), Word (.docx) and PowerPoint (.pptx, .ppt) open a file picker instead. Video is marked Coming soon. The overview says what each type is.

The ⊕ menu with each type, Book marked Beta, Video marked Coming soon, and New Folder below a line.

Ask the agent to make one

Ask for the kind of output you want:

Each new document appears as a card in the chat and in the Documents list. Editing covers refining it.

Drag files in

Upload files
  1. Open the agent's Documents tab, in the Computer panel.
  2. Drag files, or a whole folder, from your computer onto the list.
  3. To file them in a folder, drop them onto that folder. A closed folder opens when you hold the files over it.

A message at the bottom right shows the progress. For several files it has a Cancel button, which stops the rest. Files already uploaded stay.

A dropped folder keeps its structure two levels deep. Deeper files land in the nearest folder that fits.

Titles are searchable straight away. Once the text inside is processed, the agent can read it and Deep search can find it.

What you can upload

Excel or CSVSheet (from CSV/Excel)View only workbook
Word .docxWord (.docx)View only document
PowerPoint .pptx or .pptPowerPoint (.pptx, .ppt)View only slides

Text and code files, such as .md, .txt or .py, become editable code documents. Drag them in, since the ⊕ menu's Code entry starts an empty file.

Audio and video files can't be uploaded. To capture speech, record an Audio document in the browser.

Excel, CSV, Word and PowerPoint files are stored exactly as uploaded. To change one, ask the agent.

Limits

FileLargest upload
PDF120 MB
Images25 MB
Excel, CSV, Word, PowerPoint25 MB

Some files need converting first:

  • Save a legacy .doc as .docx to upload it.
  • Save a .ppt as .pptx so the agent can read it.
  • Upload an unprotected copy. Password-protected files can't be read.
Chat attachments are not documents

Files attached in chat are only for that conversation. To keep one with the agent, upload it to the Documents tab. See Attachments.

Folders

Make a folder and move files
  1. Choose New Folder from the ⊕ menu.
  2. A folder named Untitled Folder appears, ready to rename. Type a name and press Enter.
  3. Drag documents onto it. Or choose Move to… in a row's ⋯ menu and pick the folder.

In Move to…, type a name no folder has to create that folder and move there in one go. Folders go two levels deep.

To rename a folder, choose Rename in its ⋯ menu. Move to… in the same menu moves it, with everything inside. The agent also groups related documents into folders and tells you.

Documents from agents this one subscribes to sit in a folder named after that agent.

Deleting a folder deletes its contents

Everything inside is deleted permanently. You type the folder's name to confirm.

Selecting several

Shift-click a run, ⌘-click or Ctrl-click single documents, or drag a box. Then drag the selection to a folder. Or use Move to… or Delete in a selected row's ⋯ menu.

Connect S3

Choose Connect S3 from the ⊕ menu to open Import from S3. Connect an Amazon S3 bucket or compatible service, and pick files to copy in as documents.

Anyone who can edit the agent can use it. Bucket changes aren't synced, so import again for new files.
