Excel and CSV

Excel and CSV files the agent builds and the ones you upload.

Spreadsheet work happens in two places. An Excel file is a real workbook for a one-off table or report. A Book holds tables you keep adding to, like a register or ledger.

Ask the agent

"Build a tracker: one row per invoice, columns for date, supplier, amount, status."

Ask for a spreadsheet and the agent makes an Excel file, or a Book if the data will grow, and tells you which. It handles formulas, headers, widths and number formats. It can write CSV files too.

Keep asking in chat to change it, such as "add a totals row". The agent updates the same file, so its link stays the same.

Name the rows and columns in your first ask. A vague ask gets a guess.

An Excel file the agent made, open with the View only badge.

Upload Excel and CSV files

Drag an .xlsx, .xls or .csv onto the agent, or choose Sheet (from CSV/Excel) from the ⊕ menu. Files up to 25 MB upload. Creating and uploading covers folders and dropping several files.

The file is stored exactly as uploaded, so the file you download is the file you put in. In the list it wears an Excel icon.

A password-protected file can't be read. Upload an unprotected copy.

Open and read

The file opens in a viewer with a View only badge. A workbook with more than one sheet has a tab for each along the bottom.

You can scroll, widen columns and zoom from the ⋯ menu. None of this changes the file.

On an agent shared with you as a viewer, the badge reads Viewer, Cannot Edit instead.

Change one

You don't type into an Excel or CSV file yourself. Ask the agent. It edits a copy and saves it over the same document, so the link stays the same. If the view hasn't caught up, click Reload file in the header.

Or download it, edit it in Excel, and upload it as a new document.

Reading and analysis

The agent reads spreadsheets as easily as text:

  • "What's the total for Q2 in @Expenses?"
  • "Which rows here aren't in @Bank statement?"
  • "Summarise this workbook's assumptions as a note."

Download

The ⋯ menu has Download as XLSX, or Download as CSV for a CSV file. It downloads the original.
