Agent chat
Permission modes
Four settings for how much an agent may do before checking with you.
The permission mode sets how independently an agent works. Choose it under Set permissions in the turn-settings button above the message box. That button's shield is grey, amber, cyan or red, matching the four modes below in order.
The mode is yours, per agent, and sticks until you change it. Each task counts as its own agent, and teammates keep their own settings. New chats and tasks start in Auto-accept edits.
Change the mode
- Click the turn-settings button above the message box.
- Under Set permissions, pick a mode.
- Check the shield. Its colour now matches the mode.
You can change the mode at any time, even mid-turn. The Create a task dialog has the same button, so a new task can start in any mode. On approval cards, Always allow and Bypass all run the action and switch the mode.
The four modes
Ask each time pauses on an approval card for every change, every web search and every use of a connected app. Use it for new kinds of work or live systems.
Plan first proposes a plan and waits for your go-ahead, then still asks before each change. Use it for big or unclear jobs.
Auto-accept edits is the default. Document work and web searches run without cards. Connected apps and skills still ask.
Bypass all asks almost nothing, connected apps included. Use it for routines you've watched succeed.
| Ask each time | Plan first | Auto-accept edits | Bypass all | |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Notes, Excel files, PDFs | Asks | Plan, then asks | Runs | Runs |
| Web search | Asks | Plan, then asks | Runs | Runs |
| Connected apps (Xero, Outlook…) | Asks | Plan, then asks | Asks | Runs |
| Telegram message to another chat | Asks | Asks | Asks | Asks |
| Saving or changing a skill | Asks | Asks | Asks | Asks |
| Questions for you | Asks | Asks | Asks | Asks |
Saving or changing a skill always asks, because a skill is standing instructions a person must sign off. No mode answers the agent's questions for you.
A schedule is never set up by the mode either. The agent proposes it as a card, and it exists only once you click Schedule.
If an agent in Bypass all surprises you, drop it to Ask each time and watch the next run.
Scheduled runs
A schedule runs in the permission mode of the chat it runs in. Nobody is there to answer a card, so a card that appears waits about ten minutes, then that action is refused.
If a schedule must write to a connected app unattended, set its chat to Bypass all. Saving a skill always needs a person, in every mode.
Bypass all removes your checkpoints, not the agent's limits, so it still reaches only its own documents and connections. On an agent connected to email or accounting, it sends real messages and posts real entries, so prove the routine first.
